5. V-neck tees with ugly scarves

V-neck has always been a classic neckline if done right as shown in Alexander McQueen S/S 07.

But the last time I checked, Singapore’s weather hasn’t changed much. Maybe except getting considerably warmer with global warming. If the weather is too hot, wearing a V-neck shirt is fine but why pair it with an ugly checkered one?

Once again, another blind influence from Korean fashion. But remember, Korea actually has a winter season.

4. Kitten heels

This, I have no words for.

You know which are the most appalling kinds of kitten heel? Those with a single strap across the front of the heel and make the “piak piak” sound as the shoe slaps against the woman’s soles while she climbs the stairs.

3. Crocs

It really, really doesn’t matter if it comes in its original form…

Or something fancier with fur like…..

Or a whole new species made of the same rubber material like….

I’ve seen too many of these shoes matched with short skirts, long dresses, jeans, shorts and many other variations. They all look the same: horrendous. Rubber shoes like these shouldn’t be worn anywhere at all.

Even if you don’t care about the dangers it poses.

2. Polo tees with popped collar

I have a personal hatred towards popped collars. In case you haven’t noticed, popped collars only occur on polo tees but not with button-down shirts. Maybe it’s because people wear shirts with collars to look smarter than wearing a regular tee shirt? Maybe, just maybe, it’s a sign that collars aren’t meant to be popped?

1. Leggings as pants

Leggings and tights are fine when worn under skirts or dresses. I’m aghast at the number of girls who walk around Orchard Road with only a t-shirt and leggings with nothing to cover their bum. It gets even worse when she bends down to pick up something. Can somebody spell “camel-toe”?

Wearing them as a substitute for pants is just outrageous regardless of your excuses (“I didn’t know they were see-through!”), not even when you’re Paris Hilton.

Have some sense of modesty, put on a skirt or some proper pants.

So, here concludes the painful journey through 10 fashion “trends” that hopefully will never surface on our tiny island again.

Tread carefully, it’s a fine line between good fashion sense and plain silliness.
