Founded in 2023, Writer’s Room is Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s student-led publishing house. It is home to two established youth-centric media brands, The UrbanWire and HYPE SG. We aim to engage minds and capture the emotional and visual perspectives of our little red dot through the stories we share.

For over two decades, The UrbanWire has been the voice of youth, presenting meaningful stories and perspectives. From local events to thought-provoking pieces, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy and take away.

A proud veggie hater 🥦🚫, she spends a little too much on makeup 💄 and perfume, and changes her hair colour at the slightest inconvenience. Off-duty, you’ll find her in a bookstore, flipping through magazines or people-watching. 📚👀

Meet Wen Xyuan — our effortlessly cool cool girl™, part-time gamer 🎮, full-time Snoopy enthusiast, certified Letterboxd critic 🎥, and last but not least, our Content Deputy Editor of Urban Wire.
She’s the kind of person who has to leave a review after every show (yes, she’s that serious about it) and is somehow always online. 📱Easy-going, funny, and always down for a laugh 😝 — Wen Xyuan’s got that chill, confident aura that makes everyone feel at ease. ✨ Smart, creative, and just the right amount of mysterious.

Shiya — our Production Deputy Editor of Urban Wire and officially the team’s office cutie 💙🐢 (yes, she’s heard the Squirtle comparisons — and honestly, she agrees).
A lover of all things soya beancurd and an absolute game enthusiast🎮, she’s always down for a round of anything with friends— board, phone, or computer.💻 Whether she’s nerding out about her favourite shows 🎬 (ask her about Avatar: The Last Airbender, we dare you) or cracking unexpectedly insane jokes, Shiya brings an infectious energy that lights up the room.💡

She’s also an avid guitar player, and while she might deny saying she’s talented at it, we’re not buying it! 🎸🎶 A firm believer that frozen yogurt > ice cream (controversial, but respectable), she’s full of surprises when you get to know her.

Meet Wafeeqa — our chaotic ray of sunshine and Deputy Editor of HYPE. ☀️ When she’s not pitching fresh ideas or perfecting stories, you’ll probably find her cracking the most unhinged joke at exactly the wrong-but-right moment (it’s a talent, really).
She’s a sucker for any movie that’ll make her either sob or scream, no in-between. She’s also emotionally attached to her water bottle (her iconic cutesy Bowala 🎀) and overthinks everything like it’s a full-time job.
Unfiltered, hilarious, and somehow running on 3 hours of sleep— that’s Wafeeqa for you. ✨

Meet Ruo Hwee, the Editorial Admin of HYPE, who keeps us in check and on top of our never-ending deadlines!
In her free time, you’ll probably find her deep into a four-hour nail art session 💅, grinding out an absurdly high Block Blast score like a true Candy Crush auntie (342,369 and counting), or bingeing her way through long TV dramas. Meticulous, assertive, and always on top of things, she brings organisation and a little bit of glam to the chaos. 💄🎀

Say hello to Pearl – our Editorial Admin for UrbanWire. In addition to being our admin, she’s an effortlessly elegant musician (a talented pianist to be exact) 🎹🎼 with a love for anything Sumikko Gurashi and Pokemon!
A true music lover through and through, whether she’s jamming with her band, organising a playlist, or laughing uncontrollably mid-conversation, Pearl radiates warmth and charm. 🌤🌻 Sometimes an egg, sometimes a pearl — always authentically herself. 🥚🦪

She’s the type to rewatch and reread her favourite shows, movies, and books 📕 (because comfort media is a lifestyle), all with Arctic Monkeys blasting in the background. 🎶Her favourite animal is the gloriously deadpan Tibetan sand fox 🦊 — fitting, right?

Say hi to Aisyah, our Videographer 🎥 who’s passionate about every niche interest she falls in love with.
A proud DC fan (who can name all five Robins on command), she collects comics, watches movies in cinemas like it’s a sport 🎬, and lives with three very spoiled cats. 🐈
Whether she’s talking about games, music 🎧 , or cat photos, she brings an easy warmth and genuine enthusiasm to every conversation — and to the team. 🫶🏻Down-to-earth and quietly hilarious once you get her going, Aisyah’s energy makes every shoot better.

“LADIES LADIESSS.” that’s the vibe our Video Editor, Ryan, perfectly encapsulates. He’s our quietly reliable yet unexpectedly funny presence on the team.
A former competitive gamer 🎮 and poet 📝, Ryan is unfortunately terrified of birds and frogs.🐸 At first glance, he may seem introverted, but deep down he’s really hilarious, always game for anything, and somehow always getting dragged into random situations. He’s the kind of guy who steps up when it matters. 🙋🏻♂️

Mr Sharpe really lives up to his name — sharp eyes, sharper instincts. 🧐 As the Editor-in-Chief (and mastermind) behind Writers Room, he’s the one keeping our stories crisp and our ideas even sharper. ✍️
When he’s not steering the newsroom, you’ll probably find him chasing adrenaline — whether it’s tearing up the track at Sepang on his Kawasaki H2SX 🏍️ or catching the wind in a sailboat race out in Changi. ⛵ Bald by choice, bold by nature — that’s Mr Sharpe. 💪🏼✨
