Taiwanese diva A-mei is celebrating her 10th year in showbiz with A-mei World Tour 2007. The diva will be astounding the audience with her powerful vocals on Nov 8 in the Singapore Indoor Stadium
What’s New
Having just switched record labels from Warner Music Taiwan to EMI Taiwan in April 2007; A-mei released her 12th studio album STAR in August. The hits in the album like “If You Had Heard” and “Forever Happiness” has been topping many radio charts since their release. Being known for her heart-rending love ballads, A-mei tries something new by sharing a duet “A Moment” with Jam Xiao, a rising star from Taiwan’s version of Project Superstar, who’s building up his huge fan base.
The Well-Known
Even if you are not a fan of Mandarin songs, you might still find some songs by A-mei familiar. Titles like “Nothing You Want After All”, “Listen to the Sea” and “Bad Boy” will definitely ring a bell to you. Particularly her love ballads like “Remember”, written by local talent JJ Lin, and “I Want Happiness”, are must-sing titles during karaoke sessions.
The Past
When she first stepped into the trade, A-mei joined Forward Music Taiwan and released her debut album Sisters in 1996. Following that successful album were more albums like Bad Boy and “Holding Hands”. Looking at the album sales figures for her 1st few albums, it’s no wonder she had loads of concerts lined up for her. There was her Asia Concert Tour in 1998, her 2nd Asia Concert Tour, Mei Li 99 in 1999 and many others.
More than a Diva
Being a celebrity, let alone being an international artiste, is no easy feat. A-mei uses her significance as a celebrity to do good, often participating in charity concerts to help raise funds for the needy. During the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in 2003, A-mei sang the theme song “Hand in Hand” along with more than 80 singers for the Anti-SARS campaign in Taiwan. The song was written by Wang Lee Hom and David Tao and participating singers included Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun and even Jacky Wu.
Glory that Shines
But that’s not all. A-mei was chosen to be Taiwan’s tourism ambassador since 2004 till recently when Jolin Tsai took over. But her achievements don’t stop there. She had also won the Best Female Vocalist of the Year award at Taiwan’s prestigious Golden Melody Awards in 2002 and Favourite Artist – Taiwan award in MTV Asia Awards in the same year and in 2004. The invitations to perform at many award ceremonies like the Golden Horse Awards assure you that A-Mei is an established diva.
The Expectations
According to UnUsUal Entertainments Private Limited, Singapore is the 2nd stop of A-mei World Tour 2007 after the 1st in Shanghai on Nov 3. The other confirmed stops are Beijing, Guangzhou, Malaysia and Hong Kong. As to whether the performance would vary for the different stops of the tour, UnUsUal reckons that the programme would be “more or less the same”. However there’s this question that many are interested to know the answer – would there be any special performing guests for the concert? Could it be Jam Xiao or other artistes that she had worked with? I’m sorry to disappoint you but according to UnUsUal, there will not be any performing guests, not any that they know of at the moment. Regardless of the presence of special guests to steal her limelight, A-mei would still make you go ‘wow’ with live presentations of her hits as well as her latest titles in her new album, STAR.
What Are You Waiting For?
Well, the recognition, awards and album sales says it all. A-mei World Tour 2007 is a concert that’s not to be missed. Join her fans and watch A-mei shine like a star just like the way she did for her latest album, STAR.
