With Clarke Quay’s Forbidden City at IndoChine transformed into a cosy living room of sorts, fans of American Idol spent the evening eagerly anticipating the reveal of their top two Idol finalists at the Star World Happy Hour Party.

Fox International Channels brought fans of the franchise together for an exclusive screening of the results show on StarHub Cable channel Star World on May 20.

Fans gather to watch as Hayley Reinhart departs from American Idol with a heartfelt song, leaving Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina to vie for the title of American Idol.

The event was a considerable success, and despite the relatively small crowd in attendance, fans had a chance to mingle and discuss about their favourite contestants whilst enjoying a free flow of complimentary drinks and canapésFollowing the loss of old favourite judges like Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, and appointment of new judges Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, many Idol viewers expressed skepticism of the latest season’s success. However, it would seem that the change brought about a renewed interest in American Idol, now in its tenth year of running.

“We were afraid, to be honest,” says Yvonne Tay, 35, Vice President and Territory Head of Fox International Channels. “But I think numbers have proven themselves, it’s definitely not running out of steam.”

She also said that with ratings in Asia were at an all time high, with the viewership in Singapore at its best ever.

Fans present erupted in applause upon finding out that the final two contestants, Scotty McCreery, 17, and Lauren Alaina, 16, will be battling it out next week for the coveted Idol crown. Chicago’s Hayley Reinhart, 20, was voted out, but managed to deliver an impressive final performance before her graceful exit.

The Star World Happy Hour Party event was held at Forbidden City. The exclusive event was a cosy, enjoyable affair.

Guest performers included Italian opera trio Il Volo, whose mesmerising performance greatly outshined that of Nicole Scherzinger and 50 cent’s, which was rather underwhelming in comparison.

Malathi Nair, 30, an ardent fan of the Idol franchise since its debut in 2002, spoke fondly of the series.

“It grows more exciting every year. And this season, the panel of judges is really very good.” She gushes. “It really adds flavour to the show.”

However, she does not share this excitement about the finalists, preferring eliminated contestants Pia Toscano and Jacob Lusk as her top two.

Judging from the night’s festivities, it certainly seem that even after a decade, Idol fever certainly has not died down, and does not look to be relinquishing its position as one of the top shows on Star World any time soon.
