Hailing all the way from a small town in Malaysia called Yong Peng, kampong girl Lim Ka Kiao also known as Ah Kiao (Michelle Chong), tries her luck to be an actress in Singapore. Although her first attempt to join ‘Starz Search’ fails, Ah Kiao perseveres and works in Singapore as a Watsons sales promoter, whilst searching for another opportunity. On her journey, she meets shy coffeshop helper, Ah Seng (Alien Huang), who understands her passion and her dream. But with obstacles blocking her way to stardom, will Ah Kiao ever achieve her goal?

In the movie, it was hinted that the duo would most probably end up together. This is surfaced when Ah Kiao constantly calls herself Zann while Ah Seng reminds his boss that his new name is Christopher. Because of the similarity in personalities, it made the movie a little predictable. Despite being better known for her acts in comedy, Chong was undaunted by her more dramatic scenes, pulling them off with enough emotional weight and honesty.

Not to be outdone, Alien portrayed his role of an innocent and foolish admirer with an amusing child-like glaze. This is especially so when Ah Seng puts on a vacant grin when he talks to Ah Kiao. Kudos to the 100% Entertainment host for being able to pull off the kiddy character because he is actually different from Ah Seng, who’s simple-minded.

The music used in the movie seemed to revolve around the same tracks (mainly the theme songs for the movie). Being played at the right moment, the songs add on to the comic factor and created a sense of jolly for the audience. This is also because of the fact that Ah Kiao always has this goofy smile when she goes on another journey to try and be an actress.

However, the movie tends to be a little slow-paced and littered with twee lines of dialogue like, “You are the female lead of my life.”

Already Famous is a heartwarming, lighthearted family-friendly fare that will prove an entertaining watch, as well as providing a rare, honest, behind-the-scenes look at our local entertainment industry.
