As a mark of respect to Black culture, local rapper and hip-hop artist Axel Brizzy, 22, will be donating 100% of his sales from his latest single, Leap of Faith, to support the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
Axel announced that he will be setting up a Bandcamp in his open letter on social media, where fans can purchase the song for a minimum of $2, and all proceeds will be given to the Reclaim the Block charity.
“I’m doing Black art myself, I’m profiting off it, and rap came from The Bronx, New York, so it is only right for me to use my platform to speak up on it.”
Leap of Faith, released on June 5, is the first single that Axel single-handedly produced, mixed and mastered.
This song started as Axel’s final year project while he was studying at Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Music and Audio Technology (DMAT).
It features fellow Singaporean musician bittymacbeth, also known as Beth Yap, who gave this song different dynamics with her soulful and unique vocals.
“To me, she was the perfect artist for me to work with on this project and she encapsulated what I wanted in the chorus perfectly,” says Axel.
‘And in 30 days time, a soldier with a rifle’.
Last year, his single Wanna Know was the third most played song on 98.7FM. The rising star shared that he will be enlisting into National Service on July 2. However, he will not be away from the music scene as he already has a line up of songs to be released over the next two years.
