The Singapore Arts Festival is not just for culture vultures. And if you don’t buy it, surprise yourself by performing in it yourself this year.

You won’t need to tell a flat from a sharp or do a pirouette either, because to commemorate its 30th anniversary, the SAF is giving 30 lucky Singaporeans a chance to be a part of their aerial opening ceremony, Dreams in Flight. This means you’ll get to share the stage with the esteemed Spanish arts group- La Fura Dels Baus who performed the opening stint for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

This act will have you feeling like you’re entering a hidden world with no worries; just peace, given the beautifully choreographed movements and brilliant fireworks according to the SAF website.

Volunteers will form a human net 40 m above the ground with training provided by La Fura Dels Baus from May 23 to 24, for 8 hours each day.

At 8 pm on May 24, there will be a final full dress rehearsal for the media preview at the Padang to prepare for the 3 nightly performances from May 25, starting at 8 pm.

In return, volunteers will get an experience of a lifetime and limited edition SAF souvenirs.

So don’t miss out on a chance like this. Send in your applications by Apr 20 to Ms Joey Leong of the National Arts Council at Joey_LEONG@nac.gov.sg or contact her at 6837 9892.
