The spotlights above dimmed as a person hastily took her place in the center of the stage, both hands clasping the microphone stand. Head bowed down, and a silhouette formed, making it hard for the crowd to catch a glimpse. And in a deep mellow tone, the person began the verse of “Shot Me In The Heart”.

“High, we get so high.”

Like a cue, the fans at The Coliseum Hard Rock Hotel Sentosa started screaming and the cameras panned to show Christina Perri, the American singer-songwriter in full glorious view.

The second the chorus hit, everything came together perfectly. The stage was drowned in an intense orange hue, as Perri sang her hearts out while the drummer, Kevin Rice, hit the drums vigorously. The crowd was equally energetic, despite the venue being rather palatial in scale.

Another Side of Perri

Since the midsummer of 2010 when Perri’s debut single “Jar of Hearts” appeared on Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance, the American singer has seen her fame and fortunes dramatically altered. The life-changing moment was soon followed by countless hit singles such as “A Thousand Years” made famous in Twilight, “Arms” and “Distance”.

Proving herself as an accomplished singer-songwriter and performer, Perri constantly bounced on stage to the rhythm of tracks like “Burning Gold” and “One Night”. The best part – the way she twirled and danced on stage while keeping the widest smile the whole time.

“Arms”, “Distance” and “Human” induced goosebumps in the audience, as Perri hit the high notes spot on. In fact, her ability to reach the highest octave amidst the vigorous jumping and shouting was impressive.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

“Falling in love is a very scary thing, you don’t know if he’s in love with you too. So this song is about that teeny teeny tiny little moment.”

Accompanied by pianist and keyboardist, Emily Grace, “The Words” stirred a warm fuzzy feeling in the audience. Perri poured her heart out with her well-controlled and melodious vocals. Many in the audience were hypnotized, spotted placing their palms on their hearts while swaying to the beautiful music.

Girl on Fire

Singapore is the second stop in Asia, and the 28 year old singer was already feeling a sense of attachment for this city.

After singing “A Thousand Years” along with the audience, she clutched her heart, and added cheekily: “Thank you for this unforgettable memory. I will never forget this moment. I swear I’m not lying.”

“I’m setting fire to the life that I know,” she chimed in the chorus of “Burning Gold”.

She surely is. And a really good one at that.
