There’s a reason why Singapore is said to be multicultural. Not only because there is a myriad of races residing here, you also get to experience different cultures from all over the world. Glad to say, Erdinger Oktoberfest is one of them and any beer guzzling creature would be more than happy to use the festival as an excuse to drink more beer!
Oktoberfest 2007 began on Oct 23 with a plethora of diversely dressed folks who marched along Clarke Quay, a well known local landmark for nocturnal creatures to go merry making.
Tickets range from $39 to $49, depending on when and where you order them. All tickets entitle the buyer to a ½ litre mug of Erdinger (white or dark), your choice of main course and a buffet side dish of pasta salad or mashed potatoes among others.
The Booze and Grub
Similar as to how the Munich mayor augurated Oktoberfest, “O’zapft is!” which means “The barrel has been tapped!” is exactly how the festival kicked off locally. Bennett Neo, General Manager of Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) , Oliver Helbig of Erdinger Weissbrau, Germany and Stephan Weiss, Managing Director, Singapore German Centre tapped the barrel, filled their mugs with fresh white Erdinger beer and gave a toast to signify the start of the festival.
Ticket holders streamed into the tents to tuck into scrumptious savoury pork knuckles, sausages and roast chicken.
The white Erdinger is known as “a wheat beer for all who love an unforgettably good taste.” Its fresh glistening, amber colour sets off its taste, a tingling mellow delight with a neutral bouquet while the dark Erdinger is indeed, “a real specialty for connoisseurs”. The dark-black/brownish colour that is created from specially selected and darkly roasted malt. The full bodied malty taste is highly pleasurable as it hits the tongue and slides smoothly down the throat.
Both Erdinger beers have a super frothy head which is guaranteed to give you a “beer moustache”, the perfect accessory to have before you tuck into your hearty Bavarian meal.
What to do if I’ve missed Oktoberfest?
Oct 27 marks the end of Oktoberfest. Well, if you’ve missed it, don’t worry! Now that you know when Oktoberfest is, remember to leave a note on your calendar and order tickets from Sistic next year and join in the festival of great booze and food!
