West Grand Boulevard (WGB) held their first ever ticketed solo concert at the Esplanade Recital Hall on the 27th of February where a comfortable home crowd of fans and families were treated to a specially prepared 3-part act.

The get-together concert, which saw about 100 attendees also doubled as a celebration of the alternative rock band’s fourth anniversary.

While the evening started off on a mellow note, it built up to a rousing crescendo that left the audience asking for more.

Accompanied by Claire, a guest violinist, they first featured their more mellow songs, then followed-up with an acoustic session, and ended on a high note with some head banging numbers.

Lead vocalist Bryan Gamboa, who rejoined the band last year, was certainly in his element, singing everything without a hitch, from emotionally-charged songs such as Trees, to highly energetic rock numbers that got some members of the audience dancing around like people high on crystal meth.

As the night progressed, the West Grand boys only got better as they loosened up, treating the crowd to a nice surprise by performing some of their older songs, such as Burn. It was an intimate affair, with the audience singing along towards the end of their one-hour set.

And it looks like this now 4-year-old home-grown band is definitely going somewhere with extensive exposure at music events like Baybeats, Fasten Your Seatbelt and more recently, just last month, WGB opened power-pop Switchfoot’s concert at Singapore Expo’s Max Pavilion.

WGB is set to record their second album later this year. Their first album, Waiting For You, was released in 2007.
