Once Upon A Milkshake prefers to be known as OUAM (pronounce ‘ohm’), much like the sound that is stereotypically tied to meditation and peace.

Interior

It’s fitting, much like the way meditation is said to bring peace to your mind, OUAM gives your mind blissful serenity.

Mainly because it’s hard to think of anything else when you’re blown away by how unbelievably good their milkshakes are.

UrbanWire visited the first store at Maxwell Chambers (the second store just opened at *SCAPE) and immediately fell in love, much like a fairy tale, which seems to be OUAM’s theme of choice for the business.

The different flavours of the milkshakes are more than just premium ice-cream blended lovingly with low-fat milk. They’re characters, with developed histories of how they came to be.

Agent Strawberry

Take Agent Strawberry for example, she’s a top agent with a special gold strawberry badge that allows her to travel through time and she’s handling her most sensitive above-top-secret case now.

In truth, Agent Strawberry is the bestseller, a milkshake so thick that you can barely get it up through the straw. However, when you do, it’s a drink so creamy you can barely believe it exists. With just the right amount of strawberry flavour in it, it’s so addictive you want a whole bathtub so you can swim in it.

Chocolate Truffle Castle

There’s also Chocolate Truffle Castle, equally creamy and the coca is immediately noticeable. It’s thick and luscious, slightly bittersweet but it’s just enough to keep it on the good side of too-much-chocolate.

Next up was the Grumbling Raisins, a dangerous mafia group. But really, it’s hard to regard something as dangerous when it’s in bits and mixed with rum.

Grumbling Raisins

This particular milkshake has a dash of alcohol in it and it reminded us of tiramisu without the sponge fingers and coffee. It’s utterly delightful, but for those who aren’t used to alcohol, beware. While the alcohol may be hardly noticeable at the start of the drink, it gets stronger with each sip.

Lastly is Cerious Maple, an exceptionally skilled ninja.

Cerious Maple

The drink itself isn’t too bad either. While it may be almost tooth-achingly sweet, it’s also flavourful with the maple hitting you in the face. However, like the Grumbling Raisins, it does become a touch overwhelming near the end, but OUAM does provide water, so you can order it without worries.

A regular cup goes for $5.70 and a mini for $3.60. The regular is more worth it, but the mini is useful for nervous first-timers who are afraid to commit to one flavour.
