Rumors have been flying about in the last couple of weeks about the Playstation Portable 2, with some claiming it has an OLED touchscreen and others saying it rivals the power of current generation consoles.

In a press conference today, Sony officially revealed the successor to the 2004 portable console (and its various other incarnations, like the PSP Slim, PSP Slim 3000 and PSP Go) that has sold 62 million worldwide, codenamed Next Generation Portable.

The console itself

It looks absolutely nothing like the leaked images of the PSP 2, and instead adheres more to the style of the original PSP. The design is named SUPER OVAL DESIGN and has a larger screen than the original’s 4.3 inch screen.

It has a 5 inch OLED touchscreen with a similarly sized touchpad on the back. Where you touch on the touchpad corresponds directly to the screen on the front, and they’re both multi-touchpads.

The new portable console has 2 real analog sticks, named Micro Analog Sticks, rather than the solitary sad excuse of an analogy nub in the first PSP.

The Next Generation Portable also possess front and rear cameras, and has 3G and wifi enabled.
