International wakeboarders from countries as far as Japan and Korea graced Singaporean shores on Dec 15 and 16 with their air-borne tricks in the Red Bull Kicker Jam, held in conjunction with this year’s Singapore Wakeboard Nationals.

Despite the overcast skies and scattered drizzles, the wakeboarders were enthusiastic in their element, giving the best they could. Korean wakeboarder Kim Yongil emerged victorious as he wowed the crowd with a flawless stunt that had the crowd roaring in approval as he reigned the ramp and landed with precision.

“I was really concentrating on going air-borne when I am near the ram, and the moment I landed, I knew that it was a great performance. Judging by the crowd’s reaction and cheers, I knew the other competitors needed something special to beat me. They did well after me but I am really happy that I have won. It really capped off a perfect trip and I am glad to be here in Singapore,” said an elated Kim.

Singaporean wakeboard sensation, 14-year-old Sasha Christian showed her talent as she took the 3rd place behind seasoned professionals, Japanese Kiyomi Suzuki and Yuka Oehara in the women’s Red Bull Kicker Jam.

Said Paul Fong, General Manager of event organiser, the Singapore Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (SWWF), “The format of the Red Bull Kicker Jam is an exciting new element that the riders thoroughly enjoy that we will surely incorporate in future events.

“Wakeboard is one of the fastest growing sports with good spectator appeal and the visiting athletes believe this is the best venue in the world, so I’m definitely looking forward to having everyone back and working with Red Bull again next year.”
