Dining at Soup Broth Asia means you get to slurp down hearty and wholesome soups that have been prepared for at least 8 hours.
Enjoy piping hot bowls of homemade soups in a modern setting at Soup Broth Asia
Soup Broth Asia, is afterall rolled out by the people who brought us delights like The Soup Spoon, a leading Western soup chain in Singapore since 2001.
All soups, with the exception of non-meat-based ones like Tom Yam Seafood Soup, are prepared with a gourmet stock consisting of ingredients like pork ribs or chicken bones.
During that 8 hours, another fresh batch of ingredients, depending on the soup, are being slow-cooked. They are then fully added into the stock to ensure you get flavourful soups that are naturally prepared and full of nutrition.
The health-conscious will love their menu which includes a calorie count for every food item including desserts and drinks.
You will be easily spoilt for choice by the variety they offer – up to 12 delicious soups with Asian influences spanning Japanese, Korean, Peranankan, Indonesian, Hainanese, Thai and more.
What’s more, you can simply add $1 to change your bowl of long grain rice to yam rice or fried rice with egg. Choose from dishes like Cold Tofu, Wasabi Prawns or Roast Chicken when you top up $3.80 to $4.80 for appetizers, vegetables or meat to complete your meal. The setting is very much similar to the Chinese’s “3 Plus 1” (3菜1汤) where dinner is primarily made up of a soup, rice and numerous side dishes.
Our favourite is definitely the Chinese Lotus Root with Pork Rib Soup ($8.20), which is a filling combination of pork rib, dried cuttlefish, lotus root slices, carrots, red dates and peanuts.
We were pleasantly surprised at the first sip and couldn’t stop until we drank every last drop of this meaty broth which is infused with the rich earthy flavour of lotus root and the natural sweetness of the Chinese red dates.
The first thought that came to mind was how much it tasted like home – delightfully unexpected, heartwarming and comforting as it slides down your throat.
Soup Broth Asia definitely takes no shortcuts to give us full-bodied soups that are as authentic as the ones my grandmother makes or probably even better!
If you’re in the mood for something less common, go for the Indonesian Chicken Opor Soup ($7.20). The aroma of coconut milk hit us the moment it was served and it came with generous portions of chicken thigh meat, potatoes, carrots, zucchini, cauliflower, round cabbage, leek and carrots.
Like the Lotus Root with Pork Rib Soup, the meat is tender. While having absorbed all the flavours of the soup, it’s also not too overwhelming and reminds one of a mild curry. Those who can’t take too much spice will still be able to enjoy this soup.
From top left to bottom right: Fried Rice with Egg, Hainanese Beef and Tripe Hotpot, Egg Sambal, Sweet and Sour Pork, Stir Fried Baby Kailan.
The Hainanese Beef and Tripe Hotpot, and Hainanese Fish Maw Soup are also 2 of SouperChef Anna Lim’s lovingly made concoctions that you can consider when dining here. These are in fact family recipes passed down from her Hainanese grandmother to her mother, before she became the final beneficiary.
And while soups are the stars at Soup Broth Asia, we can’t resist raving about their desserts like the Goreng Pisang Split.
You got that right, it’s banana split with an Asian twist!
The banana fritters are a warm delicious combination with the icy cold vanilla ice cream. The salty batter also makes for a nice contrast as well.
