The world waits with bated breath for the release of Will Wright’s latest creation in the form of Spore to be released in September.

But you can be one of the first to heave a sigh of relief. To give you the hang of creating your characters in Spore, EA Games has released Spore Creature Creator on Jun 17 and is available online or in shops.

Spore? What Spore?

If you’re unaware of all the buzz behind Spore, the game takes players on an evolutionary journey, just like how life on earth might have started and then proceeded from there.

Simply put, imagine your creature starting off as a micro-organism that has to fend for itself before it develops enough to explore, interact, build civilisations and sculpt worlds.

Similar to Wright’s last success, the Sims 2, Spore seems to be a game of infinite possibilities and holds key to expanding the player’s imagination as almost everything you’ll see in-game is a variable.

Think of it as playing God.

DIY Monsters

Spore Creature Creator is a program that lets you create a creature that can later be used in the actual game of Spore.

The first thing UrbanWire noticed was the variety of tools and customisable aspects for gamers to make use of. Players will be spoilt for choice with the different anatomy and accessorising options that are at their disposal.
Players in Spore Creature Creator get to create monsters just like an artist who runs his brush across the canvas. With each stroke applied, a noticeable change is made and it’s a different one every time, due to the nature and the way the game has been made.

No two creatures are exactly the same either. Fancy your creature having two pairs of eyes or perhaps stripes on his body? Anything is possible; you make it so.
Edutainment For All Ages

One thing you should keep in mind is that Spore is created to provide more than just hours of entertainment; it was created with science and ‘edutainment’ in mind.

Close scrutiny reveals that the evolution cycle in the game follows a concept that’s pretty similar to Darwin’s Theory. Laws of physics are also infused into the game. A simple example of the realistic physics that apply in the game is that a creature with a heavier head will move and appear different from its lighter counterparts.

Computers Only

As yet, Spore Creature Creator has only been released for the PCs and Macs, so tough luck, console owners.

Spore Creature Creator is not a prerequisite for those who intend to play Spore. Rather, it serves to give fans a head start in shaping and moulding their creatures as well as sharing their creations with others. Furthermore, gamers can easily import these creatures into the game seamlessly when it arrives in September.

A demo version of the Creature Creator has been made available for download at the same time as the full version that was released on Jun 17. The only drawback, however, is that the demo will only contain 25% of what will be available in the full package. The package is expected to go out for $19.90 .
