They’re the band who brought you “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move”. Their songs are filled with fancy guitar riffs, sprinkled with electronic twangs and lined with emotive lyrics. Come Jan 31, the 5-man alternative rock band from San Diego will set foot in Singapore to rock out at the Singapore Expo’s Max Pavilion for the Switchfoot Concert.
Switchfoot has Jon Foreman on vocals and guitar, Tim Foreman on bass and backing vocals, Chad Butler on drums, Filipino-American Jerome Fontamillas on guitar, keyboard and backing vocals and Drew Shirley on guitar. Their first mainstream break came when they played 4 songs for A Walk to Remember (starring Mandy Moore).Jon and Mandy even went so far as to duet for “Someday We’ll Know”.
Having their sounds heard on A Walk to Remember led to their first major label debut, The Beautiful Letdown in 2003. This sold more than 2 million albums in the US and produced 2 Top 10 Pop and Modern Rock singles “Meant To Live” and “Dare You To Move”. Just 2 years later, the band’s second album, Nothing Is Sound, debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart and promptly went gold.
Now, they’ve decided to grace our fair shores with their unique brand of music. Perhaps we might even get a chance to get up close and personal with them because Chad tells UrbanWire that besides anticipating to play here, they’re also excited to meet the Singaporean bands.
Of course, he can’t wait either because the rock band that makes “honest sounds for intelligent people” is all geared up to rock it out!
