Meet the team behind the youth-owned thrift shop, WEARE (pronounced “wear”). They held their first physical thrift event, WEAREHOUSE, on 22-23 April and 29-30 April 2023 in hopes of bringing youths in Singapore an affordable and sustainable thrifting experience.

The event gained popularity after its pre-launch on WEARE’s TikTok page. With prices ranging from $5 to $30, we simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to snag some of the best clothing bargains!

Stepping into the store, we were immediately awed by the wide range of clothes. From windbreakers to vintage tees and even denim trousers, we were spoiled for choice – perhaps even overwhelmed, not knowing where to begin!

As we walked around the space, our eyes were drawn to the vibrant posters adorning the walls.

Speaking of wall-mounted posters, it’s hard to miss the eye-catching price tags scattered throughout various segregated areas. Upon inquiring about the pricing strategy, 19-year-old co-founder of WEARE, Ian Thio, revealed that the team followed a collaborative approach where they convene to discuss each item and decide on a fair price point.

While taking into account factors such as the brand, quality, and condition of the item, the team has ensured that the prices remain reasonable by setting a $30 cap for each item.

We dove straight into the search for some fresh threads. As we combed through the racks, we spotted loads of popular brands that are totally ‘in’ with youths nowadays – Adidas, Nike, Calvin Klein, Dickies, Carhartt, and more!

The best part? They had a whole mishmash of styles, thanks to the combination of imported goods and hand-me-downs. It was a fashion lover’s dream come true! We saw all kinds of unique outfits on customers, from Streetwear to Y2K fashion and everything in between. Basically, there was something unique for everyone regardless of their taste.

The store was really busy, so people had to wait in line outside. Luckily, the team had planned ahead and created a spot where customers could get coffee while waiting!

What’s even more exciting was their unique approach to keeping their customers engaged and entertained. They introduced a “buy now” concept, which allowed their customers to purchase some of the merchandise from the store while waiting.

The team would select pieces from the store’s inventory and bring them to the waiting area, selling them at the same in-store price. This ensured that customers didn’t miss out on great finds and had something to look forward to while waiting for their turn to shop.

Missed the fun? Don’t worry! WEARE’s next thrift event will take place soon on May 27-28, and June 3-4, 2023.

What’s more, they’re gearing up to launch their “BEWEARE Boxes” – mystery boxes packed with high-quality items at affordable prices, giving you the chance to snag some amazing finds without breaking the bank.

So, keep your eyes peeled!
