Wings, Fries, Sides. These are 3 things that come to the minds of all Singaporeans whenever they think of Wingstop’s signature flavours, food quality, and customer service.

The Social Media team at Writer’s Room went to try out Wingstop’s famous boneless wings, with a rating system to rate them based on three factors: the taste, the shiok-ness and the crunchiness of the wings.

Flavour 1: Louisiana Rub

Louisiana Rub is the first Wingstop flavour on our list. This flavour is known as one of the best to try for first-timers! As a dry rub, the spices layered on beautifully with the tender chicken, creating a unique taste that consistently delighted our taste buds! The flavour also paired well with the ranch sauce, which was ultimately the cherry on top, garnering a perfect rating on the shiok-ness rating.

Taste: 2.7/3

Shiok-ness: 3/3

Crunch: 2.7/3

Overall: 2.8/3

Flavour 2: Garlic Parmesan

The Garlic Parmesan wings is another classic flavour, as it was what one could never go wrong with. The taste reminded us of a good plate of Bolognese Pasta, with the parmesan cheese rub on top of the wings making the whole experience enjoyable. It paired wonderfully with the garlic flavour perfectly. For some taste buds, however, the cheese could strike a different chord as sometimes it may be too strong for some people to handle. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the unique flavour profile it provides!

Taste: 2.8/3

Shiok-ness: 2.7/3

Crunch: 1.5/3

Overall: 2.3/3

Flavour 3: Mango Habanero

The third flavour, Mango Habanero, pleasantly surprised us with its taste. We compared it to spicy sweet and sour pork, or gu lou yok (古老肉), with the wings’ heat matching the tanginess of the sweet and sour flavour.

However, like the other two wings, it was not crispy and felt a touch cold, as we waited too long to eat them, leaving them a little cold and soggy. Nonetheless, our team was pleasantly delighted by the wings and gave them a high grade for their great taste and pleasurable texture.

Taste: 2.5/3

Shiok-ness: 2/3

Crunch: 1/3

Overall: 1.8/3

Flavour 4: Texas Buffalo

For the final flavour, Texas Buffalo, we were surprised by the taste. Along with its spiciness, it had a tangy and sour note, reminiscent of Thai cuisine, like pad Thai with a squeeze of lime.

Unfortunately, the sour spice was not a hit with the team, leading us to dismiss the combination. However, Adrienne was an exception, raving about the flavour and declaring it one of the best she’s tried.

Taste: 2/3

Shiok-ness: 2/3

Crunch: 1/3

Overall: 1.6/3

Classic and Voodoo Fries

The Voodoo fries got high scores across the board!

The classic fries were disappointingly soggy. While there are times when limp fries hit the spot, these fell short of expectations. The team was unsurprised by the texture but underwhelmed by the taste.

In contrast, the Voodoo fries, though equally soft, were a revelation. The smoky paprika and melted cheese combination was a surprising hit, earning rave reviews from everyone, and a particularly enthusiastic table bang by Mish!

Fun Fact Discussion: “Is Wingstop overrated?”

We all thought that Wingstop was not overrated, and felt that the price paid for the wings was fair. The team agreed that Wingstop offers quality food that justifies its pricing. Furthermore, we all agreed that, although the wait times at Wingstop were extremely long, from 30 minutes to about an hour, we felt that all our worries and hanger(hungry anger) quickly dissipated with the arrival of our food.

Conclusion

Overall, the socials team rated Wingstop highly, with an average score of 8.5-9.5/10 points. Though some of us preferred one flavour over others, we mostly agreed on these tasty  wings. For Adrienne, Texas Buffalo was the standout flavour, and both Alayna and Mish picked Garlic Parmesan as their go-to. Lastly, Javen went for Mango Habanero as his flavour of the day.

Unfortunately, the wings were cold and not crunchy due to the food having been left out earlier that day. Hence, what we learned was that Wingstop is best eaten hot! So if you’re going to get them delivered, make sure you eat them straight out the bag or have a microwave on standby!  Thanks for joining us on our flavour journey!
