Sogurt is young, only 4 weeks old, but already it’s filled to the brim during the afternoon hours. When UrbanWire visited, we had to wait nearly an hour for the seemingly endless crowds of students from the nearby school to clear.
But it’s easy to understand why Sogurt’s so popular.
They give you total control over your yogurt.
Sogurt is a frozen yogurt establishment next to Coronation Plaza with a self-serve concept. When you first step in, pick a cup (medium or large), dispense your yogurt of choice from the machines and move on to the counter to pick your toppings before paying according to weight ($3.30 per 100g).
The concept came about when Lee Li Ping, the owner of Sogurt, returned to Singapore after an education stint in Los Angeles, where she was a big fan of self-serve frozen yogurt, and found that the concept wasn’t available here, thus the creation of Sogurt.
There are 8 flavours of yogurt available: plain, peach and mango, blueberry acai, strawberry, raspberry pomegranate, cookies and cream, Irish mint and chocolate.
Out of those, the flavours that stood out were peach and mango, plain and chocolate.
Peach and mango, Sogurt’s most popular flavour, is refreshing and light. Some may find it too tart for their liking, but no worries, it’s possible to swirl plain and peach and mango together to create a milder taste.
Plain yogurt may seem boring to some but it makes for a great canvas to create your own yogurt masterpieces. Its light and slightly tart flavour makes it a fantastic partner for fresh fruits and muesli.
Urbanwire’s favourite flavour is chocolate. It’s the best of both worlds with all the health benefits of yogurt and all the creaminess of ice cream. Simply slather it with chocolate sauce and bury it under heaps of M&Ms, chocolate sprinkles and chocolate chips. Simply delightful.
Forget the waistline but watch the weight. It’s easy to misjudge the weight of your yogurt when you’re dazzled by the toppings. Our yogurt felt like a mere 200 grams when it was actually 350 grams. So, do use the little scale Sogurt has provided on the counter before you pile on the goodies.
