Born and raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the 23-year-old Indonesian first set foot in show business in 2013 when she auditioned for the X Factor Netherlands Season 5. Since then, she has performed as a guest star at Indonesian maestro Yovie Widianto’s concert and made her acting debut in the Indonesian romance movie, Mantan Terindah (2014).
“Since I was little, I was always really in love with Indonesia, and I was always really proud of my roots, so that’s why I chose to go back (to Indonesia).
“I think right now for the music industry, it’s a really good market in Indonesia and Asia,” Vero said.
The R&B singer was recently in town to promote her first official single “Work It”, composed and arranged by Swedish hits-maker Olof Lindskog, who has worked with big names such as Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Girls’ Generation and 4minute.
The UrbanWire caught up with Vero to find out more about her life.
UrbanWire: How old were you when you first started singing?
Angela Vero: I started dancing first. I started singing when I was 12. When I was 12, I got into vocal lessons and that’s when I started to sing more seriously.
UrbanWire: Who would you love to work with or sing with in future?
Angela Vero: I love The Chainsmokers, Clean Bandit. They are my dream collaborators.
UrbanWire: How many languages can you speak? What are they?
Angela Vero: I speak Dutch, Bahasa Indonesia, and English.
UrbanWire: What’s your all-time favorite movie?
Angela Vero: I like mafia movies. I like Good Fellas; that’s one of my favorites.
UrbanWire: Who’s your celebrity crush?
Angela Vero: Zayn Malik. He’s really cute.
UrbanWire: If you can have any super power in the world, what would you have?
Angela Vero: I want to fly. It’s cool; you don’t have to go by plane and I like heights.
UrbanWire: If you can own any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
Angela Vero: A unicorn.
UrbanWire: How has the journey been for you since 2013?
Angela Vero: It’s been quite a ride; a lot of ups and downs. I’m just enjoying every moment; I think it’s important to appreciate whatever comes into your life.
UrbanWire: What are your dreams for the future?
Angela Vero: Right now, I want my first album to come out, so I’m working really hard on that. My main goal is to always inspire people by my music.
UrbanWire: If you have one advice to give, what would it be?
Angela Vero: It’s really important to always work hard for what you want. I know it’s cliché but seriously, never give up; that’s the best idea ever and I think it never gets old. If you never give up, you will eventually achieve your dreams.
