Have Simple Plan grown up from their teenage angst in their latest self-titled album?
Well, maybe.
“Everytime we make a record, we make what we want to hear, regardless of what other people wanna hear, ” the band’s drummer, Chuck Comeau, told reporters at a pre-performance press conference at SINGfest 08.
“If you write songs just so they’ll become hits, it’s gonna come through and it’s not gonna be genuine,” he added, saying that the change in the sound of Simple Plan’s music was simply a “progression”.
Lead singer Pierre Bouvier, who was impatiently filling silences by beatboxing into his microphone, was slightly less inspirational when he spoke about the band’s fans.
“There was this girl in England, who has our 5 faces tattooed on her chest. He boyfriend isn’t giving her a pearl necklace,” he said.
Then, he spoke about his fans back home in Quebec, Canada.
“There was also this girl in Canada who had a big tattoo of me on her back,” he said with a cheeky smile.
Everyone in the room knew what was coming next.
“Her boyfriend will never wanna do her doggy-style,” he added.
Let’s just say that Simple Plan has become just a little too adult for comfort.
