Tiny in size but feisty in spirit, Ying Ying reveres classical music because it fills her lungs with otherworldly air, and provides a form of romantic escapism. At times, people gape at her pursuit of a piano diploma while she laments her tiny hands. “A hindrance really, when your short fingers are unable to jump octaves!” she retorts. Ultimately, Ying Ying’s on a quest to pass on the beauty of classical music to others, which is a personal reward for her. Of course, strip away the classical music jargon and you will find a girl next door who enjoys simple pleasures in life, like enjoying a cup of kopi [coffee in Hokkien] after a long day.
