If you missed out on the inaugural Big Night Out 2009 on Jan 13, you’re probably feeling sorry for missing one of the best live gigs in Singapore.
In a nutshell, Big Night Out was a roaring success as The Ting Tings lived up to their promise: a high-energy, heart-pumping, adrenaline-kicking performance that was bound to make their fans dance all night.
Opening Acts: Force Vomit & Wiley
Jumpstarting the exciting night was local band Force Vomit with their brand of rock music to warm up the audience. Hailed as the “Godfather of Grime”, special guest Wiley performed next. Wiley, supported by Skepta and Bless Beats, did a fantastic job of bringing the genre to life as the audience went crazy and bounced to the brilliant creative beats that he created.
Everyone was on their feet “krumping” and pumping to Wiley’s infectious music as he performed his hit songs such as “Where’s My Brother”, “Summertime” and ended with a roaring finale of his most famous “Wearing My Rolex”.
For the first time, the widely-acclaimed duo: The Ting Tings
A chorus of “Ting Tings, Ting Tings, Ting Tings” and loud cheers welcomed Jules de Martino and Katie White when the duo finally appeared on stage and jumped right into their first song, “We Walk”.
“We have one request tonight,” announced lead singer Katie, “And that is you dance!”
And danced they did, soaking up the crazy atmosphere and grooving to their hearts’ content with the Ting Tings.
As the audience went wild over their hits “Great DJ”, “Fruit Machine” and “Shut Up And Let Me Go” and the ultimate “That’s Not My Name”, saying that The Ting Tings rocked the house down is a total understatement.
Last but not least…
The night didn’t end after the unforgettable finale from the Ting Tings. Music was spun by deejays throughout the night for everyone to dance the night away.
The added incentive that kept fans on floor right till the stroke of midnight was the prize of winning a chance to meet the highlight of the second Big Night Out on Feb 3: The Prodigy.
For whatever reason you missed this first instalment of Big Night Out, you’ll kick yourself if you don’t head down to Sistic now to grab your tickets for the next one on Feb 3.
