Strangely enough, performances by Jay Park, Jayesslee, Derrick Hoh and even the first ones in Singapore by Plain White T’s, didn’t draw as many to the HTC Likes Awards on Jul 22, as you’d expect. Still, the 600 plus strong crowd who half-filled the Suntec Convention Centre found it well worth our while.

HTC is turning everyone into a socialholic by holding this Likes Awards. They launched their new range of phones, HTC Chacha and HTC Salsa, which comes with a Facebook button for posting pictures and thoughts easily! Socialholics were encouraged to participate in the various categories of the awards show. With categories like “Best Look-alike” and “Best Music Parody” and more, anyone could submit and try their best to garner as many “likes” as they could.

HTC provided non-stop entertainment through the night, keeping the crowd on their feet and cheering wildly for all acts. Here are some video highlights for your viewing pleasure:

Jayesslee:

This adorable pair of twins,Janice and Sonia Lee, are Australian-born Youtube sensations. Singing their way to stardom just by posting videos, Jayesslee are on their way to having sellout concerts not only in Singapore, but also in the States.

Derrick Hoh (何维健):

Our homegrown talent who was a finalist in Project Superstar back in 2005 stopped by Singapore for the HTC Likes Awards. Derrick Hoh is currently based in Taiwan and has been busier than ever. However, he never fails to disappoint every time he comes back to perform for his Singapore fans. I hear this time, Derrick spent 3 days before his performance honing his piano skills. How can you not be a fan of this determined artiste?

Jay Park:

Seattle’s b-boy made a big break back into the celebrity realm with just one Youtube video. Jay Park went viral overnight, getting over 1.5 million hits on his cover of B.o.B’s “Nothin on You” in just 24 hours. Currently working on a new Korean variety show, Immortal Song 2, Jay Park returned to Seoul after the gig. There are also unconfirmed rumours that he’s in the midst of recording a new song, I guess all we can do is wait patiently.

Plain White T’s:

Plain White T’s put on an awesome show, their first in Singapore, for the fans! Having been around the music scene for a little over 14 years, the American rockers give their best for every performance, and this was no exception. Tweet them and show the love Singapore has for the 5 guys based in Illinois. That short performance wasn’t enough. I think it’s time for the Plain White T’s to serenade Singapore with a full-length concert.
