So we hyped the launch of the HARAJUKU Street Style collective a couple of weeks back, but the full fanfare was reserved for a party at STYLESPACE ON 4 on Oct 7.

The shindig was held at TANGS Orchard’s spanking new STYLESPACE ON 4. It was like a housewarming of sorts, where the beloved Japanese labels have just unpacked their boxes and were getting used to the neighbourhood.

It seemed like everyone was particularly curious about the new kid on the block, with some 400 guests showing up. And they were a handsome crowd too, with some of them decked out in full Harajuku glory.

The guest list included Rei Shito, the returning ambassador of HARAJUKU Street Style. Rei is possibly one of the most endearing Japanese women you’ll meet. STYLESPACE ON 4 was very brightly lit, and we like to think Rei’s spark had something to do with it.

James Bent from Le Mode Outré was also there, trigger-happy as usual, but this time on his iPhone instead. He intended to do a series of Instagrams for the event instead of his usual street style photography with his trusty DSLR (View the entire album here!).

Sifting through a clothes rack is never really as satisfying as watching it in motion (even style.com has a Move It function), and the two fashion showcases that night offered fantastic permutations of outfits you could get out of the different labels.

Show-stealers included bloggers Xiaxue, TypicalBen, Cheesie and Qiu Qiu each strutting a look from the collective. The 4 of them had showcased some more looks way before the launch in a Blogger Fashion Showdown online.

Winners from the Fashionista styling competition that was held prior to the launch were also announced. They walked away with a pair of watches from Citizen, Japanese cosmetic and skin care Dr. Ci:Labo voucher worth $500, and a sweet prize from JCB.
