Hot chocolate bomb is the latest food trend taking over TikTok, and for a good reason — the chocolatey “explosion” that occurs when you pour hot milk over the ball is ultra-satisfying to watch. To date, the #hotchocolatebombs hashtag has already clocked over 125.4 million views.

Just like the name suggests, a hot chocolate bomb is a hollow chocolate ball filled with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. Other than chocolates, people have also put their own spins to the “bomb”, using fillings like Oreo, Peppermint, S’mores and Pumpkin mix.  

Hot chocolate is commonly linked to Christmas as a rich, sweet tasting treat, but this was not always the case. It used to be a luxury for the wealthy elites and royalty, and majority of the population only consumed hot chocolate as a special treat during the Winter Holidays.

Over the years, as the cacao farming industry expanded, this treat has been made readily available for us to consume, making it the Christmas go-to drink of today.
