This ‘oktober’, expect a change. That is, Singaporeans will get another Free-To-Air TV channel to catch their favourite programmes.

What is OKTO?

In a milestone move supported by the Media Development Authority (MDA), MediaCorp TV12‘s Vasantham will be recast into a full-fledged channel, while Kids and Arts Central will be re-launched as okto.

Predominantly an English channel, okto will retain the essence and strength of Kids and Arts Central’s programming.

okto will bridge the gap of our kids viewers and arts lovers seamlessly, so that viewers of all ages can be with us.” – Ms Daisy Irani, Vice President of Central Network Programming & Promotions

What can we expect?

With programmes not just for kids or the kid in you, viewers young and old here can expect to enjoy 105 hours of compelling programming each week. With some of the best local and international programmes and film art, we can expect to be enriched, engaged and entertained all at the same time.

The Channel with an Attitude

“It’s OK TO be young forever”

“It’s OK TO lose sometimes”

“It’s OK TO create!”

These statements reflect the youthful attitude that okto has adopted to positively engage and encourage its viewers.

Indeed the exuberance from the okto team, all of whom donned bright orange okto tee-shirts at the press session held at the Singapore Cricket Club on Aug 25, was palpable and resonates with the channel’s image.

When and what’s happening?

Officially, okto will be launched and begins transmission on Oct 19.

However, viewers can start tuning in from Sep 19 onwards. Details on how to tune-in will be shown on the various MediaCorp platforms as well as okto’s website.

okto will be carried on both StartHub Cable TV and SingTel mio as channel number ‘8’ (not to be confused with Channel 8).

In Greek, okto is the number ‘8’.

What’s fresh?

“We are very pleased to be able to revamp and relaunch Central in the form of okto. okto is part of our strategy to cater to our viewers as they grow with us.” -Ms Lim Suat Jien, Managing Director of TV12

okto will focus on creating more engaging programmes with strong interactive component with games and chats on-line. okto ‘LIVE’ will be a ‘live’ programme which gives participants instant access to a wider audience via a television platform, to share their views and opinions about issues, while giving them the satisfaction of knowing that their message is getting out to their peers in real time.

okto will also continue with the landmark move of being the first channel in the world to showcase anime titles in the same week as Japan.
