Instead of a handshake, Korean actor Kim Woo Bin gave a fan in Singapore a congratulatory hug, drawing jealous squeals from an estimated 1,500-strong crowd during his recent stopover here to promote his crime action thriller, Master.

Best known for his roles in hit dramas The Heirs and School 2013, the 27-year-old model-turned-actor was in town with his co-star Gang Dong-won and director Cho Ui-Seok. The trio showed up at Plaza Singapura to greet their fans at 7pm. Their most ardent supporters were in the queue as early as 5:50am.

To spice things up, 3 fans were invited on stage to complete a maze. The winner was first promised a handshake with Kim, but to her delight, she received a big hug from the dashing actor.

Trust Kim to be the master at fan service.

His spontaneity also prompted Gang, who already shook hands with the second place winner, to up his game and offer a generous hug as well.

The session ended with a birthday celebration for Gang, who’s turning 35 on Jan 18.

Also starring Korean mega star Lee Byung Hyun, Master centres on the battle of wits between a fraud investigation team and a criminal network. This is the first Korean movie to premiere at Singapore’s Capitol Theatre.

The film opens in Singapore from Jan 13.
