Day 3 of Singapore’s Music Festival saw the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, 30 Seconds To Mars, Hail The Villain, The Vines and Ian Brown wreaking havoc at Fort Canning Park.

Hail The Villain set the pace for the 5-hour event by opening it with an electrifying set. Lead singer Bryan Crouch took a leap of faith and climbed up the stage setting, which drew cheers of approval from the audience.

The awesome foursome from Ontario, Canada performed their hit single, “Take Back the Fear”, which saw the crowd getting in frenzy. The audience was moshing along to the tunes, not wanting the set to end.

Unfortunately, the adrenaline in the audience petered down when Ian Brown took the stage. It can be attributed to the fact that Hail The Villain was a metal band while Ian Brown was an alternative rock singer.

The Englishman tried to interact with the crowd by attempting to speak Mandarin, which evoked giggles from the audience as he kept mispronouncing “Xie Xie” as “Shi Shi”.

He then ended his set by saying, “If your girl can’t dance, get yourself a new one”, which drew more cheers from the crowd.

The Vines took centre stage at 9.30 pm. Instead on relying on crowd interaction, the band communicated to the audience with their music. The sound of the band infused ‘60s rock together with ‘90s alternative music, making the audience groove along to the beats.

After the Australian band ended their set on a high, there was a moment of awkward silence as the crowd waited in anticipation for the next act.

The crowd went into hysteria when 30 Second To Mars stepped onto the stage.

Everyone was feeding off the energy from the charismatic Jared Leto as loud, shriek squeals from the teenage oriented audience were heard every time the front man talked to the crowd.

Ironically, the band from Los Angeles looked like a beefed-up version of Tokio Hotel, who also performed on SINGfest Day 1.

The UrbanWire was rather bemused when a sector of the crowd moshed to the preppy choruses of the band. It was truly a unique experience.

Undoubtedly, the night belonged to Smashing Pumpkins.

The band from Chicago played a total of 17 songs, capping off the wonderful night with “Tonight, Tonight”.

SINGfest 2010 was truly one to remember with the eclectic amount of artises brought in to perform on Singapore’s grandest stage. One will definitely be left reeling on what to expect from the line-up in 2011.
