The Concept
While most people who love Dim Sum take these traditional Cantonese finger food with Chinese tea, the folks at Stacked think they go just as well with alcohol. Explains Ms Chang Yee Ling, owner and founder, “We feel that Stacked would suit the modern lifestyle of having quick bites and drinks in a casual vibrant ambience.” Maybe that’s why they call it a dim sum bar, instead of a restaurant.
Situated along The Quayside at Robertson Quay, Stacked Dim Sum Bar is a great place to have some delicious fare by the Singapore River.
Chang adds, “Stacked is designed for all dim sum lovers so they can enjoy our selection of handcrafted, freshly made dim sum at any time of the day.”
By this, she means that their exquisite dim sum can be enjoyed till late, along with Stacked’s signature cocktails and bottled beers, great news for Singaporeans who are getting more into nightlife.
The Ambience
Chang wanted Stacked to be bold and modern. Raw and organic materials like unfinished wood panels and concrete create a warm, earthy feeling for the diners. You can choose to either sit inside on the lounge sofas, or hang out at the long bar counter perched on yellow bar stools.
Well-ventilated by a ‘Big Ass Fan’ (it is really THAT huge), the indoor dining room has wood panelled feature wall that has blackboards ‘reporting’ their daily specials. If the breeze doesn’t satisfy you, head outdoors and dine by the riverside.
Stacked has 2 big screens that show the latest sports news. Popular movies are only screened on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings.
The Dim Sum & Drinks
At Stacked, all their mouthwatering dim sum are served stacked up in square baskets, accompanied by 4 table dips namely chilli, soya sauce, Chinese vinegar and the only Western choice- balsamic vinegar. In addition to this, every different dim sum is served with a unique sauce on their own.
This 5 dim sum combination are Stacked’s signature dumplings that fused Thai, Italian and English culture with their ingredients and flavours into it. Each has their own concocted dip for that extra taste. And man, they taste heavenly. If you are a cheese lover, Stacked’s Margherita Dumplings are for you. Generously stuffed with mozzarella cubes, shredded basil and diced tomatoes together with balsamic vinegar, this dish is simply lip-smacking and no, I’m not exaggerating, the cheese really oozes out of that small compact dumpling.
The other 4 dishes are similarly tasty and cost an affordable $8.90 for 5 in each basket:
English Cumberland Dumplings
Thai Basil Beef Dumplings
Shredded Duck Dumplings
Scallop Pesto Dumplings
Another must-have is their Chilli Crab Pau available either FRIED or STEAMED. Stuffed with fresh and authentic spicy-sweet chilli crabmeat, this dish will leave you yearning for more!
Besides the novel creations, dim sum lovers can also expect delish classics such as the Creamy Custard Pau, Steamed Siew Mai, Steamed Har Kau etc, you name it, Stacked has got it.
Do try their other tempting dim sum (Prices range from $4.50 to $12):
Beancurd with Prawns
Salted Egg Squid
Cold Tofu with Citrus Sauce
Stacked’s Salted Egg Squid
If you think that their dim sum are a bit pricey, take advantage of their “Stack of 5” priced at $29, which will save you more than $10. Additionally, there’s also a set of 3 baskets at $15 from their Classic Collection, or at $24 their Signature Collection.
And what’s a bar without booze? I’m hooked on their flavoured beer imported directly from North Taiwan. Priced at $12, it comes in 2 flavours, Lychee and Honeydew and man, you can’t get enough of them. Sweet smelling with a taste like carbonated fruit juice, this will get your taste buds dancing.
If you’re looking for something exotic, there’s Stacked’s Mojito ($16). Marrying rum with Asian spices like lemongrass, ginger and a touch of chilli padi, this drink will perk up your nighThis drink is considered not so spicy but the refreshing smell of lemon really put this drink a notch up.
Stacked’s dessert creation, the energizing Mango Sago Pomelo With Peach Vodka ($7.90) will satisfy your sweet tooth.
