TenEleven Cupcakes wasn’t named to be one up on Twelve Cupcakes. Opened in April, it’s the latest bakery to join the seemingly ever-rising ranks in Singapore to serve up these encased cakes actually derives its moniker from the Oct 10 and Nov 11 birth dates of owner, the full-time baker Mrs Handara Isman and her husband.

Despite the welcomingly cheery mellow yellow and pastel pink exterior with the interior of a homely kitchen, this shop on the first floor of Far East Plaza has enough space to seat all of 2 patrons. So takeaway is the way to go to enjoy these moist and flavourful baked goods

How it stands out against worthy contenders in the market such as Twelve Cupcakes which has 12 branches and Cupcakes with Love that has two is the homemade taste and freshness. The taste feels like your own baked cupcake with no established taste that the other two have.

A dozen flavours are offered, more than Cupcakes with Love’s 8 everyday flavours.

Even though you won’t be able to find the highly sought-after Red Velvet Cupcake here, other flavours will quickly contend for the spot of your new favorite.

“There is a lady who works nearby, who comes here for the banana and cappuccino (cupcake) every day!” says Maria Tymosiewicz, a 19-year-old undergraduate who’s a part-time assistant at TenEleven.

One of their best sellers is Key lime, which has refreshing hints of citrus in the cake, with rich vanilla cream frosting and a small slice of the more tart lime at the side. Less commonly found in cupcake stores, this zesty item gives an edge to Ten Eleven.

Another bestseller is the Mocha Caramel Sea Salt, a treat for chocolate lovers topped with delicious buttery caramel-flavoured cream with beads of salt.  The cupcake was dense and the mocha taste will appeal to both caffeine and chocolate lovers. Double Chocolate and Chocolate Hazelnut will  also be favoured by chocoholics.

Other flavours that are worth trying are Strawberries & Cream, a light sponge topped with fresh strawberry slices paired with a savoury light cream. It was not too sweet and just right

The price can be a little pricey and service is average.  There could be more flavours for the cupcakes and services such as on spot customisation. The shop could be expanded to accommodate customers, which currently just seats two.

A regular cupcake costs $3.50 and for about 5 flavours including keylime, cookies and cream and double chocolate.  As for the premium, flavoured ones such as Matcha, Strawberries and cream you’ll need to shell out another 30 cents. You get a slight discount when you pick up a box of 2 ($6.80), 4 ($13), 6 ($18) and a dozen ($34).  Don’t forget the pretty Mini Cupcakes go for $1.50 for a standard and $1.80 for a premium. The latter also come in boxes of 6, 12, and 16 for $9, $16 and $20 respectively.
