Hi all UrbanWire readers,
First of all, I’d like to wish everyone a merry Christmas in advance!
Over here at the UrbanWire office, we’ve been working on something big, although I’m sure you already know what it is.
Originally to be launched on the 9th birthday of UrbanWire (Jan 18th, F.Y.I.), we the editors have decided to bring forward the release date of our new site because we’re just so terribly excited about it.
So what’s new?
We’ve got a new look!
And not just that, we’ve also updated our site functionality for a smoother and more convenient surfing experience for you, our dear readers.
Come, and follow me on a quick tour of UrbanWire 3.0.
The first thing your eyes will be drawn to is the large featured content sliding banner in our homepage. Over here we’ll have the hottest ‘can’t-be-missed’ features and articles that are handpicked personally by us.
If you’ll look down, you’ll see a familiar sight of each category being represented in the homepage, with one major difference. We’ve changed it so it now shows the 3 latest articles in the particular section, so you don’t need to jump through hoops just to look for a recent article.
Moving onto the sidebar, you’ll see the latest contests placed up high so there’s no need to constantly go into the Contests section just to look for new contests. All new contests will be showing up on that area in future.
We’ve also rethought our category pages and changed it so you can see a total of 10 posts in a particular category at anytime.
It’s not just that though. Author biographies are now more prominently displayed below every post an author writes, so you can stalk your favorite writers with ease.
There are always more new features to discover, and we’re constantly adding new ones, so just keep exploring to find more!
Of course, the new site’s only a couple days old, and with every new site, features get added and pulled depending on your response. Some things might be changed or moved around for the next 2 weeks or so, but this is more or less what UrbanWire 3.0 will look like.
You can email me your comments, suggestions or any bugs. My email address is just at the bottom of the post. See how useful the new site is already?
2011’s coming!
We’ll also be running a couple of year-end/decade-end features that will run over the course of the next week or two to round out Christmas and New Year with you! The links will be periodically updated here for your convenience, so just check back here every few days so you don’t miss out on anything!
