In 2016, 22 young Singaporeans aged 10 to 19 took their own lives. Among the 20 to 29 years old, the number stood at 77, according to the Samaritans of Singapore, a suicide prevention center.
There has also been a marked increase in the number of 16 to 30-year-olds who approached the Community Health Assessment Team (Chat), an outreach arm of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for help in recent years. The number jumped almost threefold from 550 in 2015 to 1,580 in 2017, according to a Straits Times report.
